The Messenger – Markus Zusak
Zusak paints a picture of a town that reminds me so much of my own; it is multi-faceted, ugly, dangerous, miserable and beautiful all at once. The host of characters we are introduced to via each Ace provide the reader with insights into suburban Australian life: it's not always idyllic, often it is marred with poverty, domestic violence and trauma.
